Northern maine Guided Upland Bird Hunting

Richard Spies, Registered Maine Guide

Meet Rich

Maine Registered Guide with over 40 years of experience in the outdoors.  Hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, surfing...you name it.  I have always loved the outdoors.  From as early as I can remember, I was following my Dad around while pheasant hunting while growing up in NJ.  I was "in charge" of picking up the empty shells.  I followed along until I was able to get my first hunting license by passing my hunter safety at age 9 1/2.  Stocking pheasants season after season for the local rod & gun club...I did whatever it took to get outdoors.

Many years of hunting and fishing followed. After graduating from UMaine, Orono I settled down in Southern Maine but continued to be drawn to the North Maine Woods.

It's the northern reaches of Maine where I found my calling for guiding.  I truly love chasing upland game birds and even more so watching the reactions of fellow hunters when the "King of Game Birds" takes off like a rocket into the thick spruce stands and clear cuts. they go by many names: Pa'tridge, Drummers, Ruffies, Thunder-Chickens, etc.  Whatever you choose to call them, they are sure to get the heart beating and the adrenaline flowing!

I love seeing the look on my friends, colleagues and clients faces after a day of hunting upland birds.  Sharing stories, meeting new friends and the mutual appreciation of all that Maine has to offer.  I hope to be able to share those experiences with you as well on future hunts.
